Fundraising: Storytelling for Impact

  • The Growth Hub Oxstalls Lane Gloucester, England, GL2 9HW United Kingdom (map)

At the heart of fundraising, there’s a need for our work to be understood, remembered and, ultimately, to move someone to action – whether that’s becoming involved as a volunteer, donor, advocate, or funding partner.

Storytelling is about sharing real examples, moments or journeys that bring your message to life. It shows the human impact of your work and helps people to understand, remember, and care about it.

In this workshop, we’ll explore storytelling as a technique that can help people in fundraising and marketing roles to do just that.

Who is this workshop for?

Those with responsibilities for fundraising, marketing, volunteer engagement for charities/non-profits.

What will the workshop cover?

Why stories? What makes a story powerful? How can we create stories?

  • Telling stories with impact and resonance

  • Building narratives related to the charity’s priorities

  • Tuning into our audience, making them feel something, empathy, understanding and imagination

  • How is the story reinforcing brand – what do we want people to know and feel about us?

  • Branding: not just logos... illustration, music?

  • Creative styles: reportage, polished?

  • Anatomy of a story

  • How can we manage anonymity?
