CandO (Connect and Offload) Helpline

CCS Adoption
“CCS Adoption finds families for children who need them; but matching a child (or children) with a family is only the start of a lifelong adoption journey. All adopted children have experienced adverse childhood experiences; the impact of trauma can create lifelong issues including: forming trusting relationships; social skills and relationships with peers; executive functioning skills; speech and language difficulties; learning difficulties; regulating their emotions; coping with transitions and change. CCS Adoption provides a range of programmes to adoptees and adoptive families. Family finding is funded by local authority fees but adoption support isn’t and relies on vital charitable funds.”

Community Connexions
“Community Connexions provides transport across Gloucestershire (except the Forest of Dean) to those who cannot access any other means of travel. We deliver our services using professional drivers utilising accessible minibuses, and volunteer drivers using their own vehicles. Most of our services are door-to-door, providing transport to essential health appointments, day centres, lunch clubs or just to get some shopping. Rescuing waste resources from local business across Gloucestershire, we collect, sort and process these surplus materials which would otherwise be destined for incineration. These unusual and high-quality materials are made available in our Scrapstore, providing low-cost resources to schools, nurseries, childminders and community groups, as well as families, individual artists and crafters alike. We have a team of volunteers who help us run the project with the aim to promote re-use and sustainable alternatives whilst supporting play & creative opportunities throughout the county. Sunflowers Suicide Support
“Sunflowers Suicide Support provides a range of trauma-informed interventions to meet the holistic needs of children, young people and adults who are bereaved and affected by suicide.
Sunflowers also offer training and bespoke talks to the community to raise suicide prevention awareness, reduce stigma and ultimately reduce the number of people who take their own lives in our community.
In 2021 there were 5583 confirmed suicides in England and in Wales: a significant increase to previous years. Approximately 3/4's of all recorded suicides are males and the majority of these males were aged between 50-54. Females aged 24 and under have seen the largest increase in suicide rate since records began and Suicide is the most common cause of death in people aged 16-24.

The Boys Brigade in Gloucestershire
“We provide opportunities for young people from 5 - 18 to learn, grow, and discover, in a safe and caring environment with registered leaders, all of whom have enhanced DBS checks. In our sections for younger members the emphasis is all about having fun and making new friends, with plenty of craft, games and learning thrown in. Our activity programme expands as members move through the age groups and we offer everything from sports, cooking, camping, canoeing and competitions against other groups, some also have marching bands. We have a progressive award scheme that leads to the highest badge, the Kings badge, whilst teenagers are offered training opportunities that help develop their confidence, build their skills, and aid their personal development, adding valuable attributes to their CV.”
