Hate Crime Awareness

Practical training for VCSE staff, trustees and volunteers to recognise concerns, respond safely and build inclusive, welcoming spaces.

VCSE organisations support diverse communities and play a key role in creating safe, welcoming spaces. In today’s climate, this can sometimes bring challenging situations or conversations. Our Hate Crime Awareness Training delivered by The Diversity Trust is a friendly, practical session designed to build confidence and understanding.

The session will cover what hate crime is, how it can affect people, and simple, supportive ways to respond if concerns arise. The session also references recent Charity Commission guidance on responding to the current hostile environment, helping organisations act proportionately, safeguard people and make balanced decisions.

This non-scary, accessible session is ideal for staff, trustees and volunteers and will leave you with practical steps you can use straight away to help keep your organisation and communities safe and inclusive.

Overall Aim

To build the confidence, knowledge and practical skills of VCSE staff, volunteers and trustees to recognise, respond to and prevent hate crime, while supporting safer, more inclusive and equitable communities across Gloucestershire.

Outcomes

The session aims to:

  1. Increase understanding of what hate crime and hate incidents are, and how they affect people.

  2. Build confidence to respond appropriately, safely and compassionately when hate crime is disclosed.

  3. Improve knowledge of local reporting pathways, support services and safeguarding responsibilities.

  4. Embed EDIB (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging) principles into organisational practice and culture.

  5. Support VCSE organisations to become safer, more inclusive spaces for staff, volunteers and service users.

You will receive the webinar joining link by email before the event.
