Practical Allyship for VCSE Organisations: From Good Intentions to Meaningful Action

A highly practical workshop designed to help VCSE organisations move beyond awareness and good intentions, equipping participants with realistic, sustainable actions that create more inclusive cultures, services and communities. Suitable for managers, leaders, trustees, staff and volunteers in any and all VCSE organisation.

Covering:

  • What allyship actually means (and common misconceptions that can unintentionally cause harm)

  • The difference between performative allyship and meaningful allyship

  • Understanding privilege, power and influence in everyday organisational settings

  • Small acts that have a big impact: practical changes to meetings, communications, recruitment, services and events

  • How to respond when mistakes happen and build confidence in having uncomfortable conversations

  • Creating psychologically safer spaces where people feel heard, valued and able to belong

  • Recognising and reducing barriers faced by marginalised communities through everyday decision-making

  • Developing realistic allyship commitments for individuals and organisations

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define allyship and explain its role in creating inclusive and equitable organisations

  • Recognise the difference between performative actions and meaningful allyship practices

  • Identify how power, privilege and bias can influence organisational culture, decision-making and service delivery

  • Apply practical allyship strategies within their own role, team or organisation

  • Respond more confidently and constructively when mistakes, challenges or difficult conversations arise

  • Identify opportunities to remove barriers and increase belonging for colleagues, volunteers, beneficiaries and community members

This course is fully funded for Gloucestershire VCSE Alliance members

And is subsidised for non-member VCSE organisations.

To enable as many groups & organisations to access this course, we limit bookings to two per member organisation. Please note we are unable to accept multiple bookings in one name. If you would like to book more than two spaces, please email bookings@glosalliance.org.uk and we will aim to accommodate individual needs where possible.
