Act Now and Age Better with Age UK Gloucestershire
Throughout July and August, Age UK Gloucestershire has been encouraging people in mid-life to embrace the benefits of moving more, helping them to enjoy the best possible health and wellbeing in later life
Do you know anyone who might benefit from some gentle exercise by doing the following activities?
1 - Try Freedom Leisure’s activities
Thanks to Freedom Leisure, Age UK Gloucestershire has been offering a free seven-day pass for anyone aged 50 and over to try activities at any of Freedom Leisure's nine venues across the county. Centres are at Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Camden, Cinderford, Cirencester, Gloucester and Oxstalls Sport Park, Lydney, Newent and Sedbury. The offer remains available until 30 September.
2 - Get fit with Dan’s exercise classes
Gloucester-based fitness instructor and personal trainer Dan Fivey has also been supporting the campaign through his gentle and inclusive exercise classes with free taster sessions throughout August. If you missed these, you can still sign up for Dan's over 50s exercise classes which are held in Gloucester and Cheltenham every week and cost £5 per person.
3 - Walking Cricket
Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation also run Walking Cricket sessions, which take place at venues across the county and are designed for people aged 50 and over. The game is played indoors in a full sized sports hall and can be as leisurely or as competitive as desired, while still holding the same challenges a regular game of cricket has, but with less demands.
4 - Dance to fitness
Dance Fitness Gold is an aerobics/dance based class is aimed at beginners or someone who has not exercised in a long time.
The Age UK Gloucestershire team also got involved, taking part in a Dance Fitness Gold session led by Ruth Baldwin from Cath’s Classes.
Cath's Classes take part during the daytime and evening at either Elmbridge Road Primary School, GL2 0PE or at GL3 Community Hub in Churchdown GL3 1HX priced at £5 for a 45-minute class.
