Cultural Competencies

In this training, you will learn actionable strategies for effective cross-cultural communication.

Culture impacts how we receive information to how we make decisions. Globalisation has led to the rapid connection of international employees, creating an amazing opportunity for cognitive diversity, but also throwing up challenges in miscommunication and conflict. In this training, you will learn actionable strategies for effective cross-cultural communication, feedback giving and receiving, presentation, evaluation, decision making, rapport building and conflict management. By being sensitive and adaptable, you can collaborate successfully across cultures and tap into the benefits of diversity.

Who is this course for:

Anyone wanting to understand working in a multi-cultural world.

Goals:

1. Enhance cultural understanding and sensitivity.

2. Learn practical strategies for effective cross-cultural communication, collaboration and conflict management.

3. Foster adaptability for successful teamwork.

4. Leverage cognitive diversity for enhanced organisational performance.

Content:

  • Definitions: culture, cultural intelligence

  • Business & moral case for cultural intelligence

  • How cultural intelligence is relevant to work

  • Understanding your own culture

  • Workplace cultural intelligence tips:

  • Cultural intelligence strategies

  • Conflict resolution

  • Self-reflection: make a personal development action plan

Please note: Participants are required to bring a pen, paper and phone for exercises and to join individually from a private space (rather than from an open plan office or a meeting room with others).

This course is fully funded for Gloucestershire VCSE Alliance members

And is subsidised for non-member VCSE organisations.

To enable as many groups & organisations to access this course, we limit bookings to two per member organisation. Please note we are unable to accept multiple bookings in one name. If you would like to book more than two spaces, please email bookings@glosalliance.org.uk and we will aim to accommodate individual needs where possible.

Our events are often oversubscribed, and we will activate our waiting list process if this happens. We advise anyone interested in booking a place to book asap.
